Monthly Stylist Wrap Up - July
A monthly recap of Tint Stylist Alexis' favourite project of the month and how we helped someone turn a house into a home by embracing colour.
After settling into her beautiful new weatherboard home in Melbourne’s Northern Suburb’s Laura set out to add her personality and style to her home.
Laura set up an appointment with me after what can only be described as a string of highly successful projects making her kitchen, bathroom and bedroom her own. Her goal was to add personality to her home and she’d achieved some great looks in a few rooms already.
Utilising Alter Ego in a few different spaces, Laura applied colour to unique surfaces to suit each space - a border line around her kitchen draws the eye and creates a focal point in the room; a bathroom cabinet for a jungalow vibe; and an amazing bedroom feature wall to elevate her artwork.
Her art and plant collection shine through - while we’re admiring her handy work, have you ever seen such a beautifully organised pantry?
However, when it came to her guest bedroom and study, Laura was feeling a bit unsure. She had styled it beautifully but it was still missing that je ne sais quoi that her other spaces had.
She also had a few key concerns for the space: the front room was darker than the other rooms in her house because of the verandah, so she didn’t want this room to feel cold. Especially while working from home, she wanted the room to feel bright and energising with the added element of feeling inviting to friends who came to stay.
I find it really helpful to learn about how people use a room when designing as it helps create a space that works best for them - Laura was not keen on the current greyish-beige that felt flat and lifeless, and wanted to feel invigorating and warm. She also loved looking out at the greenery and the beautiful artwork by Lauren Danger (@laurendangerart) that hung over the bed, so I wanted to ensure our colour scheme complimented that.
I recommended a warm deep colour to add richness and contrast but also to absorb shadow. The first colour we considered was The Sheet Society Rust; a deep earthy red that complimented the red tones in Laura’s artwork perfectly.
We decided on a feature wall behind the bed and when I suggested adding Dawn Patrol to the other three walls we were both brimming with excitement. After receiving samples for her short list of colours Laura was on the tools fast and the room came to life!
This project turned out so well and Laura is so happy with the end result. I absolutely love working with so many different people around Australia and helping them achieve the room of their dreams.
