Top tips for painting your bedroom
Bedrooms: one of the most important places in any home. After all, you spend about a third of your life sleeping – so it’s no surprise if you want to dedicate a little more attention to this space. If you’re thinking about transforming your room into a place you’ll enjoy resting your head each night, we’ve got you covered. Check out our top tips for painting your bedroom; complete with a run-down of our favourite hues and how to work with what you’ve got.
Ask yourself the hard-hitting questions
What kind of space do you want to be in? Do you care about feeling calm before you catch some ZZZs? Do you have trouble switching off at night? Would you rather shut your eyes feeling cheerful and warm? Is it a cosy vibe that grabs your attention? How about a zen-like sanctuary taking inspiration from nature? Time to get thinking…
Go beyond the walls
As for how (or where) you choose to splash your bit of colour on your bedroom walls, you could go about it in a million ways.

One option is experimenting with a feature wall to play around with the dimensions in your room and help the light bounce around the walls. Maybe you could update the outside of your wardrobe (or even the inside). You could paint the trim along the floor. Or, if you’re lucky enough to have a beautiful old fireplace in your room, a lick of paint might be all the room needs – and won’t go unnoticed.

Otherwise, the option is always there for you to let loose and paint all corners of your room for an upgrade with impact. You. Do. You.
Find your perfect match
Let’s talk colour. You might have heard the rule that light colours typically make a space look bigger, and darker colours generally make a room appear smaller. Sure, there’s truth to that. But don’t let that stop you from having some fun in your space, expressing yourself and expanding your horizons. Don’t be afraid to go beyond simply painting four walls in whatever colour your mum/best friend/cousin/neighbour tells you too. Like we said before – the right mood is EVERYTHING, and it’s your call whichever way you want to roll.

Maybe you want to create a zen-like space to set you up for an uninterrupted snooze fest. If yes, take a look at Long Weekend or Inner Self. Both of these dusty-blue green hues are the way-to-go if you need some extra help unwinding at the end of a long day.

If warm and happy hues are your calling, you could go for a dusty lilac (Be Mine is a favourite), a muted blush or even a classic warm warm off-white like C.R.E.A.M if you want to bring a fresh energy to your space.

To take things up a notch, there’s always room to think about darker shades. Sure, it might seem intimidating. But, for the right type of space, it’s hard to look past. Check out Grey Matter which scores bonus points with its cool undertones that are conducive to helping you score a good night’s sleep or Drop Bear to create a cosy den with a little bit of richness (and drama!) to it. Trust us, your walls will love it just as much as you will.
