Top tips on how to prep your walls
Primer, or Prep Plus as we call it at Tint, can get you asking a lot of questions. So we've pulled together some top tips to get you in the know when it comes to mastering that perfect paint prep.
Prep Plus paint, what exactly is it?
Prep paint is a type of paint that’s used to prepare a surface before painting your final finish. Tint’s Prep Plus is suitable for interior and exterior projects and like all Tint paints, our Prep Plus paint is vegan, doesn’t smell and is low VOC. Our Prep Plus paint has some extra benefits — fast drying, easy to sand, high coverage, seals the surface underneath and gets colours poppin'.
When to use Prep Plus?
It depends what you’re painting. If you’re painting a pre-painted wall in good condition and there isn’t a big colour change, then primer isn’t usually needed. That’s if you’re using Tint paint, because ours are self-priming *winks* *tips paint can lid*. That said if you want to go the extra mile, a single coat of prep paint will prepare your surface for the perfect finish and make sure your colour is just right.
Prep Plus is really important when you’re making big, big changes. Make sure you apply two coats of our Prep Plus paint if you're painting any of the following surfaces:
Large marked or stained walls
Walls with repaired patches (if it’s bigger than a coin)
Previously painted high-gloss surfaces
Previously painted surfaces in a darker colour or extremely different colour
Previously unpainted surfaces such as bare plasterboard, brick, masonry, MDF, cement sheet, render, wood, metal or laminate
Yep to prep!
Priming doesn't take that much more effort, so we give it a big thumbs up if you're after a super long lasting and pro quality paint job. The brunt work is really in prepping the space with cleaning, repairing, crack-filling, removing furniture and taping edges. When that's done, let the Prep plus paint roll right on with ease.
