Interview: Dan and Caitlin
Here at Tint, we love seeing people pick up a brush and roller to get creative. Like most things — painting is all the more better with a buddy. That's why this project gives us all the good vibes. A dynamic duo getting their hands dirty and walls super fresh... love it!
Tell us a bit about yourself and your painting experience... Would you say you’re a paint newbie or a Michaelangelo in the making?
We’re Dan Shaq and Caitlin Ogilvie. I’m a photographer and Caitlin is an interior stylist. We are currently renovating our two bedroom beach cottage on the Mornington Peninsula.
We would definitely call ourselves painting newbies, our only other painting experience is painting our studio cyclorama white several hundred times over the last 10-12 years.

Talk us through the project you undertook with us and how you reckon it went.
Our project is nearly a full house renovation, everything but the bathroom. We gutted the whole house, hung new plaster and then Tint’d the whole interior and exterior.
Inside we chose Old School, for our walls and trims. Outside, for the front and back of house, New Tab. Now that the base is set, the next step will be to add some colour throughout our project.
So far, so good - we have really enjoyed taking on this renovation, it’s had it’s challenges and a few set backs but overall we have loved it.

What was the paint process like for you? Take us through the motions of how you got the job done.
Thankfully for us we reached painting stage and found Tint right around the first lockdown. My photography work quietened down straight away, so I relocated to our half finished house while Caitlin continued working and staying in Melbourne. I spent many cold nights sleeping on a blow up mattress so that I could get as much painting done as possible and to keep the project moving.
The process was quite enjoyable, relaxing in a way. It helped take my mind off the current world stresses and gave me the chance to just listen to hours upon hours of my music without complaints from Caitlin haha. I started with undercoating the raw plaster walls twice, light sanding, then cutting in, then followed by two coats of wall paint. I set goals of which walls I wanted to get done each day which helped keep me motivated and on track.

Any advice for novice painters who love what you’ve done and want to try their hand at it?
Don’t underestimate the value of good advice and a good sanding block. We hit the Tint team up for a lot of advice along the way and found that using the sanding block between each coat really made a huge difference in the end result.
Favourite thing about your fresh Tint?
The whole process was made super easy with Tint, everything we needed was supplied (super quick!) and our kits had everything we needed, which meant we were prepared the whole way through our painting journey.
The lack of fumes while painting/after painting and knowing the paint is vegan and environmentally friendly.
And of course the enjoyment of seeing the finished product every time we walk through the door.
