So you have your samples... now what?
Welcome to the fun part! Picking the perfect colour for your next project has never been so easy — to help you out, we've gathered some handy tips on how to find the right hue for you...
Here’s some tips on making the most of your samples
1. Plan ahead
Before you place your samples on your wall, compare them to any furniture and fittings that you plan on keeping. Take note of what works well with these pieces.
2. Keep it at eye level
Start by placing your samples at eye level—it makes them much easier to view. You can always move them around later.
3. Do the 24h test
Check your samples at different times throughout the day, as lighting changes can affect how a colour looks.
Don’t worry—we’re not suggesting you stare at them for 24 hours straight! But natural light shifts as the sun moves, and artificial lighting will also change how colours appear.
4. Light and objects influence colour
Colour can reflect the space it’s in. For example, a white wall opposite a large green artwork may appear slightly green.
Things that can influence colour include:
- Light type (LED, halogen, lampshades)
- Interior elements (rugs, furniture, feature walls)
- Exterior surroundings (trees, neighbouring buildings)
All the more reason to test colours in your actual space.
5. Test around the room
Move your sample around—from the brightest to the darkest areas of your room. You can also paint a small swatch near corners, cupboards, or curtains to see how it behaves in different spots.
6. Trust your eye
Once you’ve tested your samples, trust your instincts. You know your space and your style—what you’re naturally drawn to is usually the right choice.
