Here’s how to figure out how much paint you really need—so you can order confidently and avoid waste.

Use our paint calculator

TL;DR: If you already know your area in m² — 1L covers up to 16m² per coat, or 8m² for two coats.

If you need to work out your m², we’ve made it easy with our Tint paint calculators. On every paint colour page you’ll find our quick paint calculator—just plug in your room measurements and we’ll tell you how many litres you’ll need.

Want something more detailed? Head to the “Ideas” tab in our nav bar to find our advanced project calculator (it even recommends finishes and tools based on your space).

The quick calculator — found on the product page

This is a quick and easy calculator found right above where you select your paint sizes. It’s very simple to use—just choose whether you’re painting a whole room or a specific surface, then enter your dimensions.

For wall height, 2.7m is pre-filled as it’s a standard wall height in Australia, but you can adjust all the numbers to suit your project. It will give you a simple quantity to order.

The project calculator — found in the Ideas tab of the nav bar

This is a more in-depth calculator that asks questions about your project to determine if you need primer, tools, and more.

Answer the prompts and it will generate a full recommended order for you.

Don’t forget primer

If you're painting over raw surfaces like plasterboard, brick or wood—or doing a cabinet or tile makeover—you’ll want to start with our Prep Plus primer. One coat is usually enough, and it helps your topcoat stick better and last longer.

Think about parts of your wall that are not wall...

When calculating your wall quantity, remember to account for areas like windows, doors, and built-in robes.

Roughly measure the m² of these spaces and subtract them from your total wall area. You can then use that adjusted figure to calculate how much Wall paint you need—and estimate any Trim paint required for those surfaces.
