The Good Day Cafe: A Dream Cubby by Al + Imo, Brought to Life with Tint

30 January 2025

Fresh off the back of renovating and building their own home, Al + Imo wanted to create a magical play space just in time for Christmas — a space where imagination could run wild, and their girls could make lifelong memories.

A Dream Cubby Build

Welcome to The Good Day Cafe — a tiny, perfectly designed cubby that looks straight out of a Pinterest board. And of course, no dream project is complete without the perfect colour palette. That’s where Tint came in.

Exterior painted in No Battery.

For the exterior, Al + Imo chose No Battery, a deep pure black that gives the cubby a sleek, modern look. The dark finish makes the interior pop while blending beautifully into the backyard greenery.

No Battery is also the same colour used on their own home, making this cubby feel like a miniature extension of their house — perfectly integrated into their lifestyle and outdoor space.

A Playful Interior Floor

Checkered flooring painted in Wine and Unwind and Old School (Trim).

The flooring features a bold checkered design using:

  • Wine and Unwind (deep red)
  • Old School (warm white, Trim finish)

This combination creates a nostalgic, vintage-inspired feel — playful, but still beautifully considered.

Warm, Timeless Walls

Initially hesitant to cover the natural timber, Al + Imo ultimately chose to paint the walls in Old School, a warm white that keeps the space timeless and bright.

To achieve a flawless finish, the walls were first prepped with Prep Plus, our multi-purpose primer, sealer, and undercoat.

Balancing Colour with Soft Contrast

To balance the bold flooring, the chairs were painted in Bubble Bath, a soft greyish-blue in Trim.

This subtle tone adds contrast without overwhelming the space, keeping the cubby light, airy, and inviting.
